Hil-Rye Studios is the brainchild of artist Hilary Batzel
Hilary Batzel also known as Hil-Rye was born and raised in Canandaigua NY where she got her first degree in studio art at FLCC. She then went to SUNY College at Fredonia where she earned her BFA in Studio Art in 2001. Hil-Rye then pursued and earned an MFA in printmaking in 2005 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Hil-Rye enjoys taking photographs of nature, is a cervical cancer survivor, loves animals and is a mom to a chaco tortoise who resides in her living room.

Hil-Rye is an abstract artist who finds inspiration in the shapes and forms found in nature and even in our own bodies. Her process of creating is one of discovery as she “plays” with paper shapes and ink with the paper. The handmade monoprints, screen prints, etchings and linocuts present to the viewer multiple layers of color and shape offering an opportunity for self-reflection, curiosity and imagination.
